It is useful to try everything in practice anyway and I like that here it's always possible to find something new. :)

They say you tend to experience different lives with the same group of souls quite frequently. When you look at them you will know or sense if they're someone in your current life. They may not look the same, be the same gender or even have the same relationship to you as they do now. They say the best way to know this is to look into their eyes as you will recognize their soul.

You may see things about the other persons life but since it's not your life I image you will be missing many of the details. Check out Brian Weiss books. He's amazing. Even if you're just curious to learn more about it he's done extensive work with past life regression therapy. He relays incredible accounts of people transforming their lives to become more loving, compassionate empathetic, patient or understanding from doing this work.

Many see past life regression as an aid or tool in progressing spiritually because it allows you to learn the lessons you didn't learn in the past so as to complete the karma and break attachment to those stories or ways of being in your current life. Basically this means you will continue to live out past traumas (although they may be via beliefs or ways of being rather than the actual circumstances) until you learn the (spiritual) lesson(s) you didn't learn then. Once you learn it, you no longer need that 'karma' to remind you because you will have progressed spiritually.

Good post. How do you know that Mike, your current brother, was also your brother in the past life when you were the king? Does regression help you figure out other people's lives as well? Also, not sure how good regression is for spirituality i.e. you are dwelling deep down into your subconcious mind. And as Buddha said that when you achieve Nirvana, all your past lives will be reveled to you anyway.
